Default Parking Heater

Thanks to all who advised me re. the possible fitting of a parking heater to the Rover 75 Club. I spoke to a motor technician who worked for MG Rover. He asked what fuel mine was so I told him diesel. He went on to advise me against it; he said he'd come across several 75s with this addition adding that this addition has caused the owners problems - smoke etc. Has anyone any further tips please?

Huh? There are thousands of fuel burning heaters fitted, the only "problems" it causes is when it stops working and the owners get cold!

Mate as an alternative point of view, I can assure you that there are several thousand diesel FBh owners who don't have problems.

Did he say what problems other than smoking? The PCBs can degrade but most can be repaired...

This is nothing short of rubbish! If you can fit one do it.

My heater has never ever smoked and I wouldn't buy a '75 without one as I live in the sticks and need a vehicle that can defrost and heat up quickly. You are better asking owners rather than technicians/mechanics unless they are on here.

The heaters work very well, even when smoking!

If it does smoke, and it bothers you, a good decoke works a treat.

Adam, I do not think that technician knew what he was talking about when he asked which fuel you used. They were only fitted to the diesel versions to give auxiliary heating when it was cold to help warm up the coolant as the BMW engine is very efficient.
Having a remote to switch it on before you get into the car to warm it up is an added bonus

Another 'expert', similar to the ' it's your head gasket mate' expert. Mine is now nearly 14 years old. Problems....................none. Get one and get it fitted as quick as you can before winter really starts.

I think your "expert is talking nonsense mate, I mean "what version???? Only diesels had them.
my zt has the parking heater and timer etc, and I've had lots of others that have had just the FBH and no problems.
The real problem is when people state a opinion on something that they have little knowledge of.

Having said all that I guess you could say that when I forget to set the timer correctly that's a problem especially when I get in the car and it's cold
