Default Under bonnet felt/insulation/soundproofing question

Hi All.

I've had an occasional noise at idle that I have struggled to track down and today while servicing the car worked out that it's a sagging under bonnet felt vibrating against the engine cover.

Slightly lazy to post before investigating (ie I haven't removed the felt yet) but searching on here I note that some have simply removed the panel (with a potential need to paint to tidy) so that's an option. 2 other questions though....

1. Is there anywhere to buy these new? Rimmers show them in the diagram but no text alongside that item (#7 in that diagram)

2. My felt is very presentable still. Has anyone tried to use fixing(s) or high temperature adhesive on the centre part of the felt, and was it successful?

Thanks
Keith.

When mine started to sag (the felt panel I mean), I strengthened it by painting on a 'skeleton' of polyester resin (as used with fibreglass). I stippled it into the felt in three 2" wide bands, left-right and top-bottom. After the resin cured, the panel was considerably stiffer and this fixed the sagging. (Unfortunately it doesn't fix everything).

Now that's an option I hadn't considered, thanks!

By "not cured everything", I assume you mean the cosmetics of the panel? Or something else?

I removed the panel yesterday but do want to replace it as it's not otherwise in bad shape bar the sag - not suprising that they do sag gived the part that isn't supported.

I'm going to try a high-temperature trim adhesive, which I've ordered from the bay ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trim-Fix-...72.m2749.l2649 )

Will take a few pics and report back. Found the method recommended on other boards and the CDTI doesn't run hot, so hopefully will be successful.

Did you put the resin lattice on the liner surface facing into the engine copartment or the surface adjacent to the bonnet?

I stippled it into the felt/fibre pad that faces the bonnet. I doubt putting it on the outer face would do anything useful.
I suppose the success of this will depend on how saggy it's become, but worth a shot.
