Driver's side footwell on the right near the bonnet opener.

I have done the one there, it was the white box which I believe is the immobiliser ecu (the ews box). This is the little black receiver box. I took out the centre console but not there and have just seen a post via google that states it is behind the dash dials.
Removing that now

Okay so all 3 boxes replaced and nothing happens when turning the key. The dash lights come on but nothing when turning the key.

The replacement fob doesn’t do the doors or alarm.

When I switch back to the original EWS box it cranks.

When I switch back to the original receiver box the original fob does the central locking and alarm.

So best setup is with the replacement ecu and the original keys, ews, and receiver box.

Soooo, aside from the chap saying the ecu was underwater and then charging my parents €300 to replace it (and subsequently stopped answering their calls and left their car with no ecu) there is nothing else to confirm the ecu was at fault.

So I am now going to check the fuel pumps under the bonnet in case the ecu is a red herring and just something that chap said to stitch my parents up.

Question

Have you swapped the transponder in your replacement key into your original key? You will need to do so as Jamie has already mentioned.

I must have missed Jamie’s but in that. I didn’t take the transponder over but held the fold in the same hand as the original key when trying to start it. I’ll swap the transponder chip over now.

I'm no expert on this but having fitted all three replacement ECUs, doesn't he need to get them all registered using T4?

Simon
Nope, if those 3 items are fitted the car will start but I wouldn't recommend having them in permanently, just as a get out of jail kinda thing. But they won't be coded to the car and VINs won't match. Only way to do that is to virginse things first.

@Niallb check your PMs

Thanks for clarifying that for me Jamie (I deleted my question when I saw Niall's last reply because it ceased to be relevant anyway!).
