No I can't see that causing any problems, but it is far quicker if you pull the fuel pump relay and use a jump lead across the pump terminals.

Don't believe everything you read - my failing cam sensor caused a problem starting first thing in the morning from cold. If the cam sensor has failed then cleaning it won't do any good, so worth swapping it out.

Does the rev counter needle bounce up when you crank the engine? If so then the crank sensor should be OK.

Might be worth replacing the fuel filter if it hasn't been touched in ten years. Failing that try a sniff of Easystart - if it fires up with that then it may be an injector issue.

Change the fuel filter that might help, the O-rings on the regulator may have dried out and shrunk? best bet would to let Andy get his T4 on it, when he can.

Mike beat me to it

Thanks Mike Noc for your suggestions. I will also swap over and try the camshaft sensor like you suggest, I have a new fuel filter with my other service bits and pieces so I may as well change it at the same time. I will have to buy some Easystart on Monday, a handy thing to keep in the boot as well.

Yep, remove the air filter and spray it in while cranking, the propellant is highly flammable and will fire up the engine.

Lol yeah nice one Andy, that brought back some memories, I remember using a can of lynx deodorant to start a mower once, got to credit the wife for that one, I remember her saying “why not blast some of this down the air box,” 😁?
