Default inside the rear arm rest

Can anyone advise what was originally intended (eg on higher spec models?) to go here?
I can see that there is a pen holder, but what about the other rectangular and circular mouldings?

Two silver coasters. A pen and my business card holder that doubles as the club flyer holder

Looks very nice.

How do the coasters and card holder (or as suzublu suggested, notebook) not fall out when the armrest is closed/opened?

Were there official Rover versions of these, or just whatever owners decided to source for themsleves?

Thanks
