Radiator top hose
Hi does anyone know where this is?
I'm constantly having to top up coolant I've been told I have a leak and its coming from the radiator top hose. Is this easy to get to and replace? As I would like to do it myself if I can. |

The 'top' hose is the one connected to the radiator elbow, top left as you look at it. The other end of this 32mm bore hose connects to the engine coolant outlet pipe, located in the Vee between the heads. You have to take off the engine cover panel to see it. Most DIY mechanics will be able to tackle this sort of leak. The area between the heads has the leakiest part of all, the thermostat assembly. Maybe your leak is associated with that?
It's the large red one here: TC Last edited by T-Cut; 10th March 2020 at 22:40.. |

Thanks TC thats a great help. I had a look at it and can see some dry coolant coming from the connection on the left where it attaches to the radiator. Maybe it just needs thightening?

When attempting to replace this do I need to drain the coolant first? If so how sorry if silly question.

On the end of the hose on the left hand side where it connects to the radiator is a plastic pipe and gasket that joins the rubber hose to the radiator some leakage is coming from this area might not be the only leak though.
Can I buy this part separately or does the top hoes come with it as one? Sent from my Mi 9T Pro using Tapatalk |

The O-ring that seals the plastic elbow should be replaced. You can get these from Forum traders, eBay, etc. If the elbow itself is cracked or distorted, it should be replaced with the part you've identified. There's only one o-ring in the elbow to radiator joint, so don't understand why Rimmer shows two (and different sizes?).
You'll lose some coolant when the hose clip is released at the elbow, but it won't be a lot if you keep the end raised. Just let in run out and replace it with fresh afterwards. TC |

When you top up with coolant use a 50/50 antifreeze and water mix.
Top up to the correct level. |
