Default Anyone Need a New Battery at the Minute?

I had to replace my battery recently, I had begun to lose confidence in it and with the winter approaching I thought best to bite the bullet. (the alternator checked out ok, and the un recognised brand of battery was at least 7 years old.

After checking out what had been recommended on the forum over the years I settled on a Varta E44 (the Bosch S005 or whatever number it was, was deemed to be identical but £10-15 more expensive).

It is only in one day, and the car is noticeably more eager to start. But a review is not the reason of this post lol. Since I was searching through eBay and Amazon as well as local places, I received a 'you might be interested in' type email, and on it was a price reduction of the E44 battery from Tayna (whom I actually purchased directly from). Via eBay they dont deliver to NI, so I do not know if there is a postage charge. But the battery is down to £72, which is around £20 less than I paid and seems to be a great price and figured someone may be interested.

They may be worth a shot, the make and type of battery I use is £15 cheaper than Halfords.

I've had a Pavilion car battery on my ZT for the past 5 years, the ZT only gets driven once in awhile, can sit for weeks without even being started, and then she only goes on short journeys.

The battery has never gone flat, and has never been charged, the car starts immediately even through the winter months, its been the best battery I have ever owned.

I think the batteries are only available from their website.

Hi Alan.
Yes I have used tayna.co.uk for all my batteries over the last 10yr I like Varta they are as good if not the exact same as the Bosch battery.

In August I bought a Bosch S4 096. Th same one lasted me 7 years 8 months. I thought it was good so bought another one. Not unusual for 75 batts to last that long apparently.

I was referring to the Pavilion brand battery Steve, for a car that don't get driven much, the battery has never died, been through five winters so far.

I like Varta Batteries in general - "Varta Industrial" range for AA/AAA/C etc.. I buy from batterystation.co.uk

I was hoping to buy a Varta battery for the Car when it came time - I ended up with a Bosch (S4 i think) as Eurocarparts had a half price sale on batteries at the time

The battery in my car looks like a Lion Brand battery (but isnt). It was 680 CCA compared to 780 of the Varta. I wasnt concerned about the brand so much as the CCA. (60ah to 77, from memory). I use my car to commute, and the battery has not let me down, except when I have been working on the car and switching things on and off. I consider my driving distance (10 miles each way) right on the edge of replenishing the starting of the car. Recently I have noticed after sitting a few days, that it was less eager to start, to go to the shop. Coming out it was fine and what I thought was normal again. The temps had dropped, and I was off on leave so it wasnt being driven in the same way. I fitted some boot tidies into the boot, and cleaning the inside of the car (so in and out with interior light on and off etc - no stereo though). The car wouldnt start after two days sitting. Charged the battery up and all was fine again. Sat a few more days and it was reluctant to start then fired up. As it is an auto, it was time.

The numbers of the new battery are higher, and with those, and the brand (supposedly high quality - although I am not a brand snob, if I was, I would have got the Bosch lol), I went the Bosch/Varta route, for the peace of mind.

Thanks Steve, it was one of your posts that made me look at the difference (none) and decide on the Varta.

I had a choice of the S4 for £72 locally at a factors, but its numbers were lower than the S5, which I had settled my mind on (the numbers are only about 9 or 10% more though - whilst I dont listen to the stereo with the engine off, the amp in my boot can consume a fair amount of power, so that 9-10% is my cushion lol). I would have constantly been saying to myself 'I should have got the S5 lol' for no other reason than I had set my mind on the S5/Varta E44. The S5 price was £125 at the factors, cost me £90 delivered from Tayna!
