Don't panic, the 'lost history' ones can be very reliable, its just an aged plastic issue, plus if it has had the top hose stat mod done this can weaken the joint where excess pressure has been applied.

The y pipe to head seem to perish over time therefore break away around the rubber seal, a new part is only £20 and is quite an easy job to fit. 1 2 3 4 5

I’ve only found the plastic yo be an issue if it has been pushed on when the top hose stay is fitted, this can compromise the seal.
