Thanks to Trikey/Andy and SD1too/Simon for your explanations - yes I get it, if hot water is going in and then straight out of the matrix whilst not passing through much of it, it won't transfer much heat into the car.

Well, I was going to apply the EASIFLUSH fix today, it's not raining here, but very, very windy and I don't want the bonnet blowing over the windscreen and roof, so I'll leave it until calmer weather prevails.

Did the job today, 16/11. Toasty on both sides of the car now, and subsequent flushes will be easier.
