AutoGlass - Replacement Windscreen Unavailable...
Hello all,
I've hit a bit of a snag - my windscreen developed a large crack in it last week and I made a call to my insurance company to get it replaced. It's slightly complicated because the car is with me up in Scotland this week so I asked Autoglass to replace it up here. I got a voicemail from them today, saying that there is no stock of replacement windscreens for my car anywhere in the UK! D'oh. I've yet to call them back as I picked the message up after the office had closed so I'm hoping it is only a temporary problem. I shall report back when I know what's going on, but it is a bit of a worry. Has anyone else had a problem getting their windscreen replaced? Incidentally, the car continues to go from strength to strength in other respects and today, over a couple of hundred miles, returned an indicated 58.8 MPG. It's been a very comfortable way of enjoying a holiday hundreds of miles from home :-) |

Maybe that explains why I’ve sold a few screens in the last few months, strangely I thought somebody else mentioned supply issues recently.

As far as I am aware there are none available and no plans to produce anymore, I sold everyone I had to a local supplier.
This was a few months ago so things may have changed

Showing in stock at Rimmers and Xpart
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID002002 Windscreen glass is the one thing I can't imagine that will ever get difficult to obtain - yes, short term supply issues I'm sure, but you can still get glass for the most obscure of cars, it might have to be ordered, but can still be obtained. |

If you look carefully at the pictures, the glass is Pilkington too.
However the price is ludicrous, I picked up a Pilkington glass for £145, and Rimmers have it at £400. ROFL. |

Thanks for the replies chaps - it didn't occur to me that Rimmer's might have stock.
I've given Autoglass their contact info and will await their next move. |

Dawn mentioned that she needed a screen and the local place to her said they had 31 in stock but they were all warped?

To be honest if anyone wants my tourer, which has the rain sensing wiper screen and lots of other stuff then I would be happy to talk at about £500 - utterly fed up with little niggly suspension nonsense (you fix one thing and...) and £500 would make the 45 I bought from mss into a decent car - I'll rephrase that, it is a very decent car I can just see how it could be better

If I was paying £500 and could afford it Id just get one from Rimmers. The 1.8 has bled me dry.
