Default Deceived

There she was a gleaming white gold example of a Cowley built Connie Se V6. Had done only 57000 miles in all of her 21 years, no water ingress and had her cambelts replaced at 18000 miles. Interior almost in showroom condition and all electrics function as they should. Now in for MOT and WHAM! FAILED! She had deceived me, her rear suspension arms and coil springs and rear exhaust box had failed. These needed to be repaired ASAP, where I live a car is essential and she was my only carrier. I told the mechanic that I would source the parts and have them sent directly to him. The arms were purchased from DMGRS and ordered the full kit. The rear box was purchased on eBay, a Klarius clamshell type for £75 from a seller in the English Midlands, Syed he was called, he asked me to call him to make doubly sure that I had the right part, which I had and he suggested that the rubber type hangers should also be replaced, these I got for a fiver. Within 3 days all parts were in the hands of the mechanic, work was carried out and MOT retested. PASS! and no retest fee. No, I am not a millionaire but she was worth saving. When you consider that buying a new car or even contract hire that would run into thousands this was well worth it. She is now back with me and runs and drives as beautiful as ever. Amen

Thanks Rogue.
I see the insignia of the Submarine service on your profile. I am an ex RN man myself but you wouldn't get me in one them things even though in my day you got 3d extra per day.

May have underquoted at 3d, then again it was a long time ago and my memory glands sometimes take a holiday. The subs I refer to were diesel, no nuclear in those days - 1953 onwards, for instance I served on the old 3 funneled cruiser HMS Cumberland and others which were laid down during WW2 my favorite being the Battle Class destroyer HMS St. Kitts who was part of the 3rd destroyer squadron. Memorable days.

Ahhhh ... Targets

I never served on D/E boats either but only nuclear H/k's.. Still needed some creature comforts as we didn't see daylight for 3 months at a time

I served on St Kitts during my service, can't remember exactly when but wasn't demobbed until November 1958.
Must get the papers out and check.

Three pence for the chips and a sixpence for a piece of fish. Real cod back then. Two lots of fish and chips = a free onion. Aahhh those were the days. All wrapped up in yesterday’s newspaper. The taste of that print was lovely.
