AUX on stock satnav head unit - anyone did it yet?
Hello,
So I have the stock satnav/tv head unit in my '00 75, as well as the Harman/Kardon stock sound system which still sounds good as new, wasn't used heavily by previous owners. So I'd like to keep the stock setup, but find a way to play music from my phone with good sound quality. My CD changer doesn't work anyway and I've tried to fix it (take it apart - wd40 - put it back, everything fine for a few uses) three times already but it's still bad more often than not, so I decided to stop caring and look into AUX input solutions (currently using an FM transmitter which is absolutely horrible). Here's something I found: https://www.incarconnections.co.uk/r...2003-ipod.html Will this work with my head unit? Anyone who bought this adapter? Or if you have a better solution, please tell me about it. All that matters is whatever I need for it ships to Hungary. If you know of any aftermarket good 2din head unit with apple carplay that plays well with the stock H/K system, it could also be a solution, but I don't think any of these can offer the same sound quality, and I care about my music quite much. Thanks in advance, Alex Last edited by AlexF75; 28th July 2021 at 09:27.. |

Hi Alex,
it looks like a good, simple idea and not too expensive. However, I note that it says that it only works with Alpine-made units. I'm fairly sure that the Hi-line units were made by VDO. I think that the Hi-line systems have an aux input, possibly via the tuner module. If you check on the American Bimmernav store (https://store.bimmernav.com/) it should provide further details since the Hi-line systems were shared with the BMW E46 3-series and the 5-series of the same dates. [EDIT See: https://store.bimmernav.com/collecti...x-input-cable] I took a different route and replaced the CD player with two interface units from Intravee. They allowed me to control an iPod's menu (iPod Classic in my case) directly via the Hi-line head unit. (I think the way the device you found would work is:- switching to 'Aux' to select the device, then all the tracks on it would play as one playlist. Any track selection or sorting would need to be done manually on the aux device (by your passenger whilst moving of course).. The downside of the Intravee (at the time anyway) was that it didn't charge the iPod, so it could only be switched on for 3 hrs or so. See:- (1) https://www.m5board.com/threads/do-y...vee-ii.214855/ (2) https://www.toysinyourcar.com/acatalog/intravee.html (3) https://www.reviewcentre.com/review566888.html as a start. Pin in and outs on the tuner in the boot for hiline models Audio in would be mono only
(White plug pins 4 & 5) ( Video in is 6 and 15) https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...61&postcount=9 As a slight aside you will see you can also ad reversing camera to hiline equipment (pin 13 and 14 on white plug and with relay to pin 17 to ground on blue plug to activate)
