The 2 speed fan is less likely to give you any grief, the original 3 speed is prone to brush wear. I would recommend getting hold of a gold resistor though, don't know if the postal service between the UK and EU has settled down any yet.

I know somebody here selling the gold one but I can't remember who's the chap. Maybe Jules (EDITed)? Regarding the postal service it's working: I've got a few parcels from the UK since a few weeks.

Bought five of them from DMGRS, and helped a few local owners in need. Always found Mat to be quick to answer & polite: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/search?type=...=gold+resistor - but my new fan with a silver resistor is now about 4 years old and still going stong. Have helped others locally with new fans that come with silver resistors too and although I advise on checking them regularly, haven't heard of any failing.
Perhaps these new non-bayonet fitting fans have differently rated silver resistors and it's generally the older, original ones that fail? Keep well |

Thanks a lot for the link @vitesse.
Would you know the value of DMGRS resistor: 0.30 or 0.47 ohms? Sadly the wires on each side looks very short cut... which doesn't make the repair very easy when comes the time.

I've already made a few soldering... but crimping would be my first port of call. The most boring job is still to get the bumper and the bar off. Regarding the images, Arctic has provided a link of the How-To with pics at the end of his topic: Gold Resistor Fitting

Thanks for the input. I'll be fitting one of these new ones on Wednesday and will try to remember to check the resistor for any information. Judging by the physical size of the resistor in the eBay ads it doesn't look as thick as the gold ones but perhaps as the saying goes "size isn't everything".
