Am I in an odd place?
There are 5 75's withing 100 yards of me and I regularly see in this village 5 others. I know several of the drivers and 1 ) their cars are in excellent shape , 2) they are determined to hang on to them.
But, then , maybe I live in an odd place . It's my guess that people who are owners now really DO realise what terrific cars these are and will be the hard core that keep them going for a long time into the future. |

with so many 75's probably not being owned by members of a car forum it is hardly surprising so many end up scrap even if they were not written off due to major body or chassis damage.
With a clutch change being £600+? or an ECU drowned in a plenum, upper rear arms people do not see repair as a viable option. Labour rates being £50? an hour on top of spares and the costs mount up. New wings, doors and bumpers if they can be obtained just not worth the insurance company repairing. Breakers are key as well as retailers having parts made. Car clubs and the members are important to keep the cars on the road, helping each other. We have some great professionals on this forum and if it were not for them we would really struggle. For me, rust or body /chassis damage seem to be the things that will kill the car. I'd hate to see a car scrapped due to a part not being available but I suspect it will happen macafee2 |

I think it all depends on how they are used.I've owned my 75 10 years in September and put 15K on it .Now on 62K,granted it's always been a weekend only car.Just adds to the specialness every time I get in it

my (very quick so probably way off) calculations had it at under 4200, it makes me feel better that my car is more rare so I won't bother counting again.

The number of ZTs where I live has increased by 100% since I bought mine.
(Or is it more than that as it's the only one here?) When you think of it our old cars are doing very well. No manufacturer wants their cars to last forever. They only want them to last through the warranty period with the owners happy enough with them that they will buy another from the same manufacturer. Mine is 17 years old now and well out of warranty. Not bad!

I just spent £450 getting mine through its MOT (well, re-check next morning...), and that's more than it cost . But once you replace all the worn out bits, you have a car that should go on for many years. At least I hope so!
According to a recent post on how many cars are currently on the road, mine is supposedly one of only around 20 Contemporary CDTi Tourers left...which I find hard to believe, but then that would be about right considering the general demise of the 75. Most people like to think their car is special - and now, most of us are right!

My average spend keeping my 75 on the road would be around £300 a year and I’m happy to spend that and even more keeping it on the road. Compared with depreciation on a newer car it’s excellent value and at least there’s the slim chance of values increasing albeit many years in the future
