Default fuel solenoid?

help...i was changing a brake pipe on my 75 td and there is a small what looks like a solenoid rubber mounted to a bracket on the body just behind the fuel tank.it has a small pipe each end which dissappear behind and above the tank.it has a wiring plug with 1 black and 1 brown/salmon wire.
when i pulled the brake pipe out it snagged the rubber pipe on this valve and the end pulled out and a ball, spring and nylon seat fell out.
i cant get it to go back together and a cant identify it,no mention of it in haynes?
does anyone know what it does and can i bypass it till i can get one?

Default

sounds like the dosing pump for a fuel burning heater which will be mounted in front of the battery box.I think you may have to replace the pump if it is damaged but i may be wrong,
