Are the protectors still necessary on the ZT's, I was told the ZT has thicker springs and don't suffer the same problem?

With the amount of potholes and speed bumps we now have, I would consider them a worthwhile investment on any model.
Next doors 3 year old Beetle suffered a broken front spring last week, so its not just a Rover problem. |

If the holes were there in the first place (even on my early Cowley car) it makes you wonder why MGR didn't fit them in the first place. (Bean counters no doubt!)

I’d recommend fitting to every model except the 260

Road springs fracture in all makes of car all the time. Winter is the season of spring fracture. The AA did a national survey a few years back and gave some surprising data on fracture rates through the years. I copied their graph, which looks like this.
No longer on the Net unfortunately. The MGR recall was due to a blip in an otherwise normal rate of fracture. These cheap and chearful protector gizmos will protect the tyre in 95% of cases. Nothing's 100% guaranteed, but I fitted them for the insurance value alone. The guy who helped MGR develop them is/was a member here (Norfie) Click: https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=99965 TC Last edited by T-Cut; 19th February 2019 at 10:44.. |

When I see the speed some drivers go over speed humps, it’s no wonder they get broken spring’s. Stopped and had a few words with idiots trying to get me to go faster over them by trying to get in my boot. Turnips. I have had a pair of the protectors for the last three years. It about time I fitted them before ‘it’ happens.

Rimmers now have them at 15% off, so a total £18 a pair inc vat.
I've just added a set to my order. |

All models should have holes. Mine were very hard to find due to rust and dirt.

According to the DVSA official recall, affected cars were 1999 to 2002 but given a broken spring will deflate the tyre and the appalling road conditions I would fit them to all
