Default Seat belt reminder

Are these cars supposed to have an audible seat belt reminder?

I just realised I can drive off without my belt on and the car doesn't constantly beep at me which is very unusual these days. Even in 2004, it would be unusual!

Mine doesn't either. Hidden option via T4 maybe?

Available on export models I believe RHD countries, ie Japan. Rover assumed British drivers intelligent enough to put their seat belt on anyway
Seat belt warning light was enabled for the European market. The seat belt pre tensioners have a switch fitted to them that will plug into a vacant connector under the seat,if you have the plug.

Pre tensioners come up on eBay rarely,if you can manage to source them they are plug and play and no T4 activation is required.

I could never understand why seat belt warning wasn’t standard equipment.
I remember when the law was passed on the seatbelts. I used to sell and fit a Lucas product called a Klunk Klicker. It was simply a relay coupled to the ignition which had an audible beeper incorporated.
When you switched on the ignition it sounded for a few seconds as a reminder to put your belt on. There was a delay in the system so that if you stalled the car for example and had to switch off then back on again the sounder wouldn’t go off again.
I’ve still got one lying in my workshop.

My 04 has the wiring for it. I plugged it in on my old seat belt tensioners, and worked straight away. The replacement seat belt tensioners didn't have them.

I didn't find it very noticeable though.

Seat belt saved my life 30 years ago. That's the only reminder I need.

No audible warning available im afraid, just the little light on the display.

Rimmer brothers have the seat belt fastener with the correct wiring if your car is fitted with the loom.

if the wiring is present (if I recall small black plugs maybe one tucked under the base of the seat, and the other among the wiring that comes through the carpet below the seat), they are unlikely to be plugged in together. Plug them in and it should work.

I suppose you could, but would you not automatically realise when setting off? Have you ever driven somewhere without your seatbelt? I think donning the belt is a natural and automatic part of driving that I'm hardly conscious of. I suppose passengers and kids are different. It was certainly different back in the clunk-click era, before we absorbed the habit. Maybe I'm too optimistic.
