True, if you don't ease the knurled nut the disc won't come off without a fight. And even if you do the disc sometimes doesn't want to come off and you end up pulling the pins out of the backplate.

Had another look at the video, about 3 mins in you see the four Allen bolts caked in brake dust, and then at about 3.50 they are cleaner even before he loosens them.

Keep well

Those handbrake cable mounting ferrules are a bit of a pain - as per other comments if they've not been apart in the past, they'll likely be a pain.

I carefully cut mine with a Dremel, but it was a little bit tedious (and took a while). All done and working well now, though.

My curiosity outweighs my desire to not appear ignorant...what is a ferrule?

Is it the tube on the rear side of the backplate that the handbrake cable goes through? If this is the ferrule, are people pulling the backplates forward to get at the ferrule and cut it open?

I used the dremel method too but only had to cut a slight groove 2/3 along the tube before the cable was freed up. Can only assume the heat from the Dremel work helped free them up?

Aye, I pulled it forward to get in about it

Yes.

Don't know about others but I keep the backplate bolted and aggressively use my angle grinder to destroy the lip on the ferrule and then pull the backplate forwards. Once free, I very gently grind the rest of the ferrule until the metal blues and gradually peel it away from the handbrake cable within. Never had to replace the handbrake cable, but do the job very slowly, grind, peel, grind peel.

Regards

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep it in mind as I know I'll need to do this job sooner rather than later.
