Need to repair fixing point on Cold Air Intake Induction System.
The fixing point is an appendage on the side of the duct assembly; is broken and the moulded rubber insert is missing. This is the initial section of the so-called “cold air intake induction system”. Its “bell-like” orifice is similar to a trumpet and its lower end attaches to the Shannon tube.
A local repairer removes the Shannon tube and this top section from R40s, leaving the other section that is attached to the air cleaner box and points downwards to a lower level. I wonder about water ingress! There must be a sound reason why the excellent R40 engineers included these additional parts – if they are not beneficial, as they add weight, and take up space. Until I repair this fixing point, the holding bracket is not able to hold it in an upright position - as intended. Any ideas on how best to repair this broken part? A 3D produced support is one of the options I am considering. However, before starting I would appreciate comments on how best to repair this fixing point on the air intake system. |

By his description it would appear to be the tab on part 6 that picks up with part 8?

Image #5B shows the as new venturi mounting bracket complete. My damaged item has no plastic front and much of the two sides missing. As mentioned the rubber inner is missing. I approached a local used parts dealer and he said they all break up and go into the waste bin. Regards,Bruce. |

Seeing as how the tube is hard plastic and there appears to be reasonable space all around it, I'm sure a bracket could easily fabricated to fit around the pipe and connect to the mounting bracket utilising the bracket tab, or modifying the mounting bracket to use a nut and bolt rather than the push on system, this would allow round grommets or rubber bushings to be used rather than the original rectangular insert, which is now possibly unobtanium !! 2mm X 20 mm stainless strip would do, another option is if you can find an induction pipe clamp of the correct dia from say an engine tuning suppliers and modify that. Such as a T bolt clamp. Or an exhaust style clamp type.

I know this is divisive, but when I bought my car in 2009, the shannon tube had disintegrated, so I bought some ducting, fitted the venturi, then thought if had done without it for a few years, there was no panic to refit. 13 years later, the tube is still in the shed, never fitted, car runs fine
