What's going on with Tesco. I took a fancy to make a recipe I'd seen on Hairy Bikers, Indonesian spicy pork stew, needed kecap manis (an Indonesian version of sweet soy sauce) or as an alternative, sweet soy sauce. Went to the nearest Tesco, there used to be a sizeable eastern foods section, five or six shelf sections, now only one shelf section with little more than ordinary soy sauce Only thing I could find was the second alternative to kecap manis, Hoisin sauce. As well as the shrunken eastern food section there were gaps in the shelves all over the place.

Spicy pork tasted "ok" but need to make it with the proper sauce or at least sweet soy.

I've noticed the empty shelf sections in the 'World Foods' of our local ASDA here Steve. We use quite a bit of light soy sauce & most of the time there's only the dark stuff which I don't like as it turns everything black so I reduce it by half with water., Doesn't taste the same mind you.

Spotted a friend chillin' on the wall when I was in the garden.

Been going round with the fertiliser as instructed but with the strength of the wind I think I got more than the plants did.

I went right off paella years ago. Ging got a frozen one, it was full of little broken bits of prawn antenna etc that kept catching in my throat. Never wanted paella since.

Our local Tesco is the same. A lot less choice than there used to be. Lots of basic stuff but none of the stuff for a "special occasion"! Lots of gaps on the shelves have been filled with more of the same old and everything has been moved around, so no-one would notice - but we have!!! We took a tour around our local Lidl and that is now far superior, with lots of new lines and the in store bakery beats the Tesco store hands down!

There are several Chinese supermarkets in Edinburgh, mainly in Leith and they're a major pain in the butt to get to. The tram lines are being extended from (roughly) the east end of Princes Street down through Leith to Granton, roads torn up, closed, diversions etc all over the place.

Looks like Glasgow's going the same way with the private car moved down the pecking order again https://airqualitynews.com/2022/08/0...active-travel/

Its a very long time since you could call Edinburgh "car friendly", I wouldn't even contemplate driving into town. Parking has been extortionate for years, bus only routes, tram only routes...prefer the bus now, especially with my old farts bus pass.
