Default Parking Sensor Quandary

Why are things never straightforward?

After buying my 75 (mk2), I soon realised that there was no 'lights left on' chime, and also that there was no chime from the seat memory. I became aware that the parking sensors also used the same sounder in the IPK, but mine were using a separate sounder affixed to the D-pillar. I assumed that someone had managed to wire a sounder into the PDC module, as the one in the IPK obviously wasn't working.

I have just had my IPK repaired by Rick, as the display was failing and he also replaced the sounder. The chime for lights left on and seat memory is now working as intended. On trying the parking sensors, I'm getting a long beep when selecting reverse, but nothing else. The sounder at the back is still beeping away, as it did before.

Trying to figure out what is going on, I looked at the sensors. My sensors don't look like the OE sensors that I've seen online. This leads me to believe that an aftermarket parking sensor kit has been fitted, due to the IPK sounder not working. I haven't removed my rear bumper - yet - so I don't know if the original sensors are anywhere to be found.

The question is, what to do next?
Do I try to restore the original system? This could involve sourcing a lot of parts.
If I retain the current system, how do I stop the long error beep every time I select reverse?
Do I just disconnect the PDC module, or is that going to create other problems?

Anyone have any ideas?

Could be aftermarket Cisbo sensors, if so, just replace them, only a tenner or so 😎

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the sensors that are fitted, they seem to work fine.

The issue is the error beep that I’m getting now that the IPK sounder is working again. I’m assuming that is because the original sensors have probably been disconnected from the PDC module.

Try sending Big Russ a PM - I'm sure he'll know. I'd guess if you changed the ZCS coding then the car will think it doesn't have PDC and so won't sound the alarm when reverse is selected.

When you select reverse. Is it constantly sounding. Ie; a sensor is down. Or are you saying it dosnt chime (one beep) when you select reverse.. If th latter, and it beeps its correct. If is continuous you av to find a quiet place and listen very carefully to ALL th senders induvidualy to find which one isnt clicking. Then replace th faulty one.

Thanks Steve.

I’ll have a look when I get a minute.

If it’s not plugged in, I’m guessing that plugging it in will still give me an error if the sensors aren’t there.

…or, if it is plugged in, will unplugging it stop the error beep, or will it just beep with a different error?

It would depend which set up you have, you say your sensors don't look OEM remove the bumper and check bumper removal takes about 15 minutes.

Error beep could be the wiring also.

What I think I have, although I haven’t looked yet, is a complete aftermarket kit, due the original set-up not working, as the sounder was faulty.

How much of the original is still there, I have yet to establish. It might just be the sensors which are missing, or it could be the module as well. Whatever it is, it wasn’t causing an error beep before, as the sounder didn’t work.

Very useful thread for me at the moment. When I engage reverse, sometimes a continuous tone, sometimes working normally. Will have a look at all the suggestions at the weekend. Parking sensors are OK to a point, but I always seem to be parking in such tight spots I'd like a parking sensor 'kill switch' lol. There are enough beeps in modern life as it is!
