Default Car Cloning.

Car cloning is on the rise especially with lots of ULEZ & CAZ's popping up around the country, "The latest data we sourced from Transport for London (TfL) shows an 857% increase in the number of penalty charge notices (PCNs) being cancelled due to the car being a clone in April compared to a year ago, and a 631% increase since the ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ)"
https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/lat...he-pcn-process

A well known EV youtuber had his Kia Niro ev cloned & it was a royal pain to get it sorted out over a few months.

Cheaper to get a set of cloned plates then it is to keep paying out the outrageous "congestion/emission" taxes!

Cool

One of the members on here had his car cloned. He got a speeding ticket plus a summons for not paying for petrol. But when the photo’s came through he was able to prove it was not his car that was running up the bills in Rotherham.
The photo’s showed a MK1 MG ZTT, the forum members is a MK2. Also his car is a diesel so he wouldn’t be filling up with petrol.

The police caught the cloned car after he tripped the ANPR. Driver prosecuted and the car was crushed.

Most will not, especially if it is the same make, model colour. ANPR will only put out a warning if there is a marker on the vehicle. Otherwise it will be a pass as it conforms to the data held.

That is the unfortunate part of cloning. The real holder of the index mark gets it in the neck whilst not knowing about events. Civil court, criminal court, Bailiffs...yeah, could be a nightmare to sort-out when innocent.

It happend to my neighbour, he is an old boy who apart from using his car to go to B&Q, the garden centre and the shops once a week it sits on his drive. He was being sent tickets for ULEZ and even had a couple of visits from the Feds saying he had driven off with out paying for petrol. Needless to say he hadnt.

The final straw was some unpaid parking tickets with non payment fees so about £500 so he got a solicitor involved and somehow he managed to sort it with the Police who put a mark on the other car, several days later it was pulled over and the Urks were arrested.

It has cost him the solicitor but he can now sleep at night.

He was told by the police apparently they rarely use perosonalised number plates so he is looking into some cheap plates for his car.
