I remember as a nipper with three sisters that all I wanted Santa to bring me was an older and bigger brother. Who new?

A new brother rather than the sisters I already knew? Hardly the same, but they did idolise me as if I was one of their dolls or even their own child. A charmed existence, being pushed in a ‘tripper’ around Newsham Park in Liverpool (13?) circa 1947. The nearest ‘brother’ was my uncle Ray, who took me to the speedway there on Monday nights. I can still remember that Castrol smell. No, I mean Big Brother in the Orwellian sense. Not that I’m suspicious by nature, of course. But, taking everything into account...
