NAC MG should have started selling the ZR/ZS/ZT and not bothered with a new car. Afterall, the old models sold so well.

I feel if we see any other engines in europe it will be the 1.7 GM sourced diesel, most likely the 120bhp/258torque model as it has sensible emissions, around 120g or so pm and would be an easy source seing as MG will be sharing Open/Vauxhaul/Alfa platforms in the future considering they are using most of the current and previous generation stuff.
Interesting reading of what they are actually building together! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_GM Hell the MG3 is based on the last gen Alfa hatch.

To be honest the likes of skoda/vw/seat are fitting the diesel in the GTI'S/VRS/CUPRAS if they could source a good diesel powertrain it would make the car hard to ignore with a little more imagination in the interior department

You've got to remember that this car isn't intended to take the place of the 75 / ZT it's in a market segment below. Your not comparing apples with apples. As far as HGF goes well, I guess the jury's out on that but as NAC/SIAC have taken heed of engineers instead of accountants in its construction then it should be OK. Having driven / sat in the current crop of cars in that segment - New Astra, Megane, Golf etc. I can tell you that the interior quality and style is on a par with them. In fact I've been seriouly unimpressed with the latest from VW the cost cutting is so obvious over the old models. Why not go and look at one or even test drive it before you judge it - I could suggest you do the same with a current Proton too. You might be pleasantly suprised - I was

Mind you, I can see where the comparisons come from - especially as they chose similar launch colours:

I have not investigated, but if the engine is basically the same old 1.8 unit which was notorious for HGF, then it does not inspire much confidence into the MG6. Also, the design of the MG6 does look like a Proton wearing an MG6 badge. I agree with others who have written, there is no individuality, personality or soul with this model. The 75s and the MG ZT's are real head turners and look special, and says, one day, I want one! Cant say that about many cars these days.....

You couldn't build a car like the 75 /ZT now. Regs. wouldn't permit it. As far as the engine goes, the latest version has MLS gaskets - uprated again over the Land Rover version, new inlet manifold gaskets - uprated sump rail and so on - all of which the Rover engineers wanted to use but were told to dump on grounds of cost. As those of us who drive 1.8 K series 75 / ZT will know if these items are fitted issues of HGF are pretty much resolved. BTW Fiat's FIRE engine as found in the Mk1 Punto had a higher incidence of HGF than the K series, as did early Porsche Boxters. Don't hear much publicity about that though. And in the eyes of the car buying, Top Gear watching public, of course, they're not British so they must be good.

The engine is not the K series.
Its the N series. Its been on sale in China for over two years now and they havnt had a headgasket failure yet. I think that says a lot about the engine. Its like comparing the Ford Zetec mk1 1.6 engine to the Ford CVH 1.6 engine, yes they shared a lot of design in the block and such, but was drastically rebuilt, different materials and so on. I have every confidence in the N series, but I feel the engine will be pulled whenever SIAC get replacements from GM. Case in proof why the Roewe 750 mk3 lost its BMW style canbus wiring and so on, so its future proofed.
