Default A very high price to pay .

Some of you may know (or not) that this week has seen the annual Cheltenham festival of racing .

In my youth and to a lesser extent my later years i very much enjoyed this event .

However over the four days of this years event which ended today no less than six horses have had to be destroyed after falls .

I cant help but think that despite the pampering and comfy life they lead this is getting a bit too much .

I grew up with horses.
Lovely animals, sociable, friendly and affectionate.

I was taken to a point to point race when I was a child, by my friends dad. I saw a horse fall at a jump and had to be put to sleep.
Horrible.

What happens to these horses after they have fulfilled their usefulness as racing horses?

I have a rescued ex racing greyhound upstairs, currently asleep on my bed...

For me, it is a similar thing.

Sadly the fate of retired greyhounds is even worse .

Although new rules re registration are in the pipeline .

Plus the ones that are bred but don't even get as far as racing. Like many retired ones, they 'disappear'.

Poor Bertie has tattoos in both of his ears.
Can you imagine how much that must have hurt him?
Thankfully, after four years he has settled in and turned into the biggest cuddle pup I have ever known.

In such a laughably PC country as this I'm amazed this cruel sport is allowed to continue.Money talks as always with the political elite and the uncaring
