At the time, the Freelander TD4 Repset Pro was about 2/3 of the price of a 75 one, and that being the only difference, I thought it a reasonable trade off to spend an extra 5 minutes doing the job Compare the FL slave pipework here....... To the Rover version here.......... Brian |

I would suggest a little caution on fitting a Freelander part. A good friend of mine has one and his original clutch failed after many years of use. The replacement LUK master lasted less than a year. The Land Rover specialist who fitted it did a bleed which worked for a few weeks and then replaced the master. The slave failed weeks after. A new clutch fitted under warrantee.
In Just over a year, a few weeks ago actually, the hydraulics failed and he had to fork out again for a complete new clutch. So he's had exactly the same failures in the same ways in the same timescales as we do. |

I really don't understand why people struggle to get this job right, it just takes a little care. I wouldn't drive any 75 automatic variant asI simply don't like automatics, however the manual car treated with respect is fine. Brian |

I had a conversation with a well respected tyre manufacturer who had to compensate me for 4 new Avons failing on my Volvo. They told me it was an issue caused by the compounds that were now less reliable due to EU regulations. They relied on the tyres wearing out before they break down, which in most cases happens, but many do not make the 6 year warranted life due to these issues. I suspect this reduced quality in rubber materials could have a lot of to do with the failures and the QA in the manufacturing. I have seen ball joint seals for classics fail in less than a year. Last week I was going through some spare parts and found two unused track control ends with the rubber perished still in the boxes. Classic clutch seals failing in 6 months is a common issue in the classic world with very miffed owners desperately seeking information on who can supply quality. I just see a pattern in the parts supply industry for parts for old cars |

You’ve had success with the Freelander slaves, as have a couple of other people, and also when I asked on a LandRover forum if slave cylinder failure is common, and what slave do they recommend, I got one reply. |

Talking of Land Rover forums, if asking about things related to the Freelander, in the main most don't bother answering as the Hippo is seen by many as "not a proper Land Rover" which may explain the lack of responses. Brian |

Our Hippo TD4 has had two slaves in 160k miles, so pretty much par for the course.
