Any opinion which input method - cassette or tape - gives the best sound?
I did already take a look at the originally described tape connection, but went a step further, wanting to connect a 3.5mm socket direct from front panel to the inside of head unit. Confusing was that the markings on the circuit board contradict the description of the PIN numbers in the OP. Will show a pic to explain next

Default Cassette connections inside high line HU

image.jpg
According to the PCB markings:

Pin 3 = left +
Pin 4 = left -

Pin 9 = right -
Pin 10 = right +

So then I was unsure... Tried various combinations but none seemed to work anyhow?? Did anyone actually try this and get it working?

Default Another aux in through cassette

Noticed another position on the circuit board which takes the connection from the cassette drive internally , see pic. Also I tried this, it does give sound although not really great. You can adjust EQ of the music player to compensate somewhat but I think the signal is somehow not properly matched. Further ideas welcome cause I think I'm on the right track to hijack the cassette mechanism here, if I city's also work out how to hot-wire the various other pins to fool it into believing a cassette is present and rolling...

I'm desperate to get Aux in.

Do you join up x2 pink/black wires and the x 2 yellow/black to a aux cable?

Could this method be used with a Symphony/CD set-up too? I want the cassette operational & am assuming the CD connection is best shared with the ipod.
My understanding is the CD output line is split to a jack with the ability to plug either the CD or iPod in as desired? This sounds ideal for my needs & l'd probably site the socket/CD plug in the armrest to keep things nice & tidy.

I eventually ended up wiring input and output jacks to enable everything to work when required. For ease I put the audio signals through a 3 pole switch.

I also went to the extent to replace my CD Changer with a more complicated system, because CDs are old hat now. Search the PiBUS if you want a full media centre onboard.

I know have as much music as I want on tap, the ability to stream from my phone direct to the Pi, additional aux input and Bluetooth all in glorious high quality audio.

I really must get my subwoofer installed again.

Nice. Is there any chance of you posting an idiots guide to the job, please?

Though between the CD changer, my ipod & radio, I'd be perfectly happy. Saying that though, maybe bluetooth would be handy.

Just added the Bluetooth receiver today, works great, so standard system in place with Bluetooth on the CD changer input, so you can stream music from phone and use inbuilt sat nav with no issues.

Also would like an idiots guide to adding this connectivity to my hiline.

I also have an aux cable which is supposed to allow a digital MPEG reciever, but not sure where to connect it!
