Thanks for the help Lates. Looks like some old stock filters may have been used on some later cars as well. It may be necessary to actually open up to make absolutely sure which is installed.
Does this mean that the earlier part WGS100031 does not suffer from the parting issue as the later WGS100032 and WGS100072 does?

Thanks Chris.

We do seem to getting to the bottom of this one thanks to Lates.
Doesn't look like yours would suffer the problem of the later modules. I'm sure you could sell your orange clip on Ebay, just mark it Rare and you will double your money.
Seriously if you want your money back I'm sure if you post it in the for sale section someone will have it off you.

According to the part no. on the top it's a filter assembly , and it does look like the one in the RAVE manual ! Mind you , If I find I have the only car with the filter and pump on the wrong sides , it wouldn't surprise me !!!

Sorry about the delay gents, hgf was a calling.

To recap the dealer was himself struggling on this one.

WGS100031 is only fitted to early vehicles up to the vin number 1D225075, hence why yours is this type Chris. This type is NLA and then supercedes to WGS100032 - these are £197.44 retail btw and is this is the type more used to falling apart, hence the intro of the orange clip.

This is where the dealer advice gets a little cloudy, the WGS100072 filter ( £64.50 ) is listed as the internal filter ? I personally think for a bit of paper sounds pricey. So we are semi kinda scratching our heads on that one.

The only real way to get to the real bottom of this is to order a 032 and a 072 to see the physical differences between the two and at £261 + vat I didnt quite fancy it somehow

My only other advice to you Chris is if it aint broke leave well alone as the potential to spend £000's is all too real. The dealer also mentioned he didnt believe the clip would fit earlier filters either - although with respect they only sell the bits.I would take an educated guess the supercession onto the 032 type was probably a cost down as opposed to failure rates but we need a MGR engineer to confirm this.

I hope this has helped in someway, many thanks to my guy at Trintity for putting up with me on this one.

edit: to add has anybody had the early 031 filter that has fallen apart or just failed ?
