Oh dear..
I remember a mates Subaru Impreza blowing a plug out of the head. It made a right ol noise! Got the attentions of a copper who when told it was the spark plug blown out of the head, the copper disagreed and insisted it was the exhaust and he should get it fixed or else. My mate found some way to keep the plug lodged in there somehow, and silently made his way home, But I guess the law knows our cars better than we do? eh? lol

The problem is a lot of spark plugs will do 100k with no problem and when they do eventually get replaced they are partially corroded in or have some carbon build up and this is what damages the thread.
I recently did a cam belt change on a Fiesta and the owner had been charged for a new set of spark plugs on every annual service over the last 9 years, the plugs I removed were FoMoCo and looked like they had been in there from new. I always put a smear of copper grease on the threads of spark plugs, once they go hand tight just nip them a further 180 degrees on new plugs or 30 degrees on used plugs. |
