Sorry to say that you will get more for your car on one of the facebook MG/75 groups. There are loads of younger members on there who love our cars. There are also some very cheap cars on the sites as well. Beware of boy racer ZT's though.

I don't think that there is any 'under' or 'over' pricing, the car sells for a price and that's the correct one. All things find their own value. Same as new/old cars, tvs, houses etc.

Every forum that has cars at the banger end of the market will complain that their cars are under priced. If you're buying, you're in luck. If you're selling a car you bought at the top of the market - then you're not so lucky. The downside to the low values is that the cars are disappearing at a rate of knots due to them being perceived as being uneconomic to repair due to a faulty clutch or minor bodywork damage, HGF etc. Enjoy the low prices whilst you can, buy the best examples you can find and stash a few away if you have the space. The days of buying Mini's, Marina's and Escorts for pennies have long gone - the 75 and ZT will eventually follow suit. |

Personally I have no interest in the 'for sale' section on here but only because I'm not in the market for a car and I suspect the majority of members are the same. If ever I am in the market for another or want to sell mine, I will use this site, Ebay and Autotrader, also the often overlooked but very good site Pistonheads. It's a lottery and the only CERTAIN thing is that you will never sell unless people know it's for sale, so the more places you can advertise it the more chances you have. Just let's not blame the site or the innocents because our wears don't sell??

Prices on the UP ?
This thread makes interesting reading and I thnk we may all agree that in general many 75's are undervalued. However those of us who read " Honest John's - Your questions answered", in The Daily Telegraph on Saturday 13th Feb may have cause for optimism. In reply to a question as to values on an immaculate 75 saloon with 76000 on the clock he gave the following reply:-
" It depends on which model you have. The 75 is most desireable in Connoisseur specification, Wedgewood blue and with cream leather and the 2.5 V6 or 2.0 CDTi engne. These are worth up to £5000. Late, facelift models with the 1.8t engine and 60.000 miles are worth less then £1000" Food for thought! |

A car for sale is worth what anyone is prepared to pay for it!

Even if fully comp' is a bit inadequate in the case of the 75, the price difference between it & third party is negligible, as far as l can see. So not having it is also pointless. A bit like single & return train fares.

And this is why a proper owners club needs to be set up with paid staff like the SOC Stag Owners club, where parts procurement happens and heritage panels are made to order because the club built up enough funds to buy OEM tooling etc. It works for them and there's no reason why it can't happen for the R40 An annual membership of at least £50 is typical for progressing owners clubs At the moment we rely on individuals arranging "group buys" which is not ideal as it only solves a short term solution. BTW only 25,877 Stags were produced between 1970 and 1977 and the Club and about 4000 Stage still thrive today.
