Default ABS light comes on at speed

as above, my ABS light comes on during the self test, goes out and stays out until I get on the motorway.

It says ABS fault on the IPK and the warning lamp below comes on. Most of the time, the IPK also says brake fault after the ABS warning, which then illuminates the warning light below.

Any clue would be appreciated as my searches so far have not turned up anything like it on the website.

Best regards, Frank B

Default Good call

Dear Davy,

I have only had the car for a couple of weeks, pumping up the tyres after I picked it up, as the nearside rear looked a bit flat.

Checking the tyres after looking at your post, the same tyre was down to 20psi or so.

That alone could probably account for the ABS tripping, so thank you for reminding me of the possibility.

So the wheel needs to come off at my much appreciated local tyre bods to clean the alloy rim etc.

Just to cheer up anybody reading this post, the tyre bods are known as Taffys Wheel and Tyre Service, or to use the acronym, NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-.

Thought that might get censored, but you can get the drift. They used to have a van with the name written in horizontal line with the capitals lined up vertically.

Puerile, but fun.

Best wishes, Frank

Default ABS light still came on

As noted in a previous post, the rear N/S tyre was somewhat flat, so after pumping it up, I confidently set off,

After about 10 mins on the motorway, back comes the ABS and Brake warning lights.

This does not seem to happen at A and B road speeds, so it is a puzzle.

Anybody have any ideas?

Best wishes, Frank

Get the codes read otherwise it will be a guessing game as to which corner is playing up

Better still book someone on here for a T4 session and live data can be observed form each wheel

Dear Jules,

sound advice as usual.

I briefly tried a generic code reader that was supposed to read all VAG/BMW etc., codes, but it did not connect.

As I am away working from next weekend for a couple of weeks, it will have to wait.

Which reminds me, I forgot to respond to your kind email following an enquiry to you.

i will get back to you when I have got a bit more into what my recent acquisition really needs.

Default ABS problem solved

Dear All,

been a thicko again.

Took my 75 to my tyre bods and the guy took one look at the tyres and told me the front and rear were different diameters.

I had a look at them when I got the car a couple of weeks ago, but could not find anything other than a manufacturers name etc,. on the fronts.

However, was my face red when I stood back and looked at them from a few feet away.

There was obviously a larger gap twixt tyre and wheel arch on the back than on the front.

The tyre body told me this was all perfectly legal as long as the tyres are of the same diameter on the same axle.

Duh again.

Best wishes, Frank
