Default Advice wanted on Hi-line replacement please

As a tech dumbo, can somebody suggest a replacement for my dead Hi-line?

I have with great interest (but little understanding) been following the posts about the cheap units from China, with smart guys like Dallas able to swap these in.

However, my poor understanding of (the real world - wife edit) various terms gets me anxious.

I believe, in my 52 CDTI saloon, that it should be possible to buy a new unit that has:

A radio capable of playing the essentials - R4, R2 and maybe a few more of these wireless things.

A dvd player, as I have not really got the mp3/4 whatever, thing sorted. But I think, usually, most things these days can also play the digital formats through USB interfaces etc.

Sat Nav, through a 6 or 7 inch screen (one of my problems, what 2 DIN units fit?) and maybe a TV link.

I believe the 75 did have TV in these Hi-line models, but that they were analogue and TV broadcast is now digital - what do I need to do to make that work.

Plus, among many, many tech things I need to try to work out, units seem to have different screen resolutions - the list of "blanked if I know" things I actually do need to know (apart from the core things I have picked out) to actually buy something that I can make work seems endless.

help please - in terms I can grasp preferably!

Best wishes, Frank

Default No replies - am I that cretinous, being so out of date in tech?

Dear all,

go on, if it merits it - tell me the answers to my questions about ICE were so obvious, nobody felt moved to tell me that!

Signed, one technophobic old tosspot

Hi, I recently bought a used Navall 3 from radioguy on the forum, replacing my symphony set and redundant CD changer. It was practically plug and play, and i now have radio app, dvd/cd player, sat nav, email/internet connection, rear parking camera (not yet connected) etc etc. A very good unit, takes about 15-20s to boot up which is about how long it takes to back out of my drive! A great upgrade despite some of the criticism of these units. (in fact my wife was so impressed, I now have to fit something similar now in her newly acquired Rav4!) good luck

Default Thanks to coolcat, smudge.g and radio guy

Many thanks for the guiding hand guys.

I have read many of the posts with little understanding.

WINCE, Navall, Android etc., I thought I was trying to learn a different language.

I will have a look and see if I can make any sense of radio guys website and do a few more web searches to try to fill in the gaps!

Best wishes, Frank
