There are some cross head screws in the alternator, which are neither!
JIS = Japanese Industrial Standard, a much less angled +

No but a Denso alternator is a Japanese design, the one in front of me was made by Denso Manufacturing, Tennessee. That's maybe why the only apparent source of bearings (B**- size) is in the USA.

They should be either a posi screw or have a 10mm headed bolt depending on the year of the car, I have seen all sorts of fasteners used over the years though, if it’s giving you grief, drill the head off then remove the thread with a pair of mole grips once the bumper is off, ther is no room when the bumper is fitted to get a hacksaw or anything else in.

Just Re read your original post, and replies. I think everyone was thinking of the screw/bolt that goes vertically up into the wing. I think that you meant the wheel arch liner screw to the bumper that faces forward about half-way between the bottom front of the liner and the main vertical screw.
This screws into one of the pressed and folded clips that itself is mounted on a weak plastic lug on the inside of the bumper. My Experience is that these have always been siezed and snapped the lug off of the inside of the bumper. No adverse effects have been noticed due to it not being there. the only way you may reach the back of it is by removing your undertray and the small quarter under panel at the corner of the bumper that links the bottom of the bumper to the wheel arch liner.

I have also seen these as screws and as small 10mm bolts.

These are always a screw never seen anything else, if they are stubborn then just press them forward with your thumb and they should pop of the flap they are attached to, then deal with them once the bumper is off.

They can be removed and modified if you really wanted that part of the wheel arch liner to be secure.

Use a couple of blocks as these below with a slot sawed into them.
7

8

Fit them to the flap with either some super glue or a screw through them.
9

drill a 3mm hole for the stainless screw to go into through the wheel arch liner.
10

As above drop some glue into the hold pointed out, or use screw or even a small bolts and nut.
11

If OP is referring to the top fixing and it as rounded of then use Irwins bolts remover, or cross head as been damaged dremel slot cut and flat screw driver.

Thanks for all your input guys. It seems that the fastener isn't critical so once it stop raining here in Manchester Ill get the drill out and try to remove it that way.

If you wanted I could send my wife around .
She had no problems whatsoever removing mine.
It's just a shame I didn't want it removing .
She only took the kids to school and I still never actually found out how she managed to do it. ? She didn't even need to slacken any of the bolts
