The only thing I wish I had done was to pack it with silicone grease underneath the aeriel so if any water was to get past the seal it wouldn't reach the hole.Still may do it..

Hi geo, your post about the aerial leak doesnt say if the temp. job with tape stopped the water coming in. when I first discovered my leak it took several attempts to stop it coming in around the sharkfin gasket. I would be inclined to remove the fin and dry it out carefully then silicone both sides of the gasket before refitting. taking the rails off before your certain its not the fin is a heap of work and trouble. the headlining is easily damaged getting it out and back again.

Hi Christopher yes taping round the shark fin has helped but still getting water i've a feeling it's also the roof rails the lining is all begging to sag round the fin going towards the side windows i don't mean the whole lining just the velour that attaches to the lining i am hoping that's an easy fix once i find and fix the leaks if you know how to repair the velour i would be grateful thanks for replying

If your headlining is like mine, the velour is stuck to a moulded multi fibre backing. this backing is shaped to cover things like tailgate hinges, cables etc and just happens to direct any water from the aerial hole down to the side windows and into the storage areas each side of the load area and it ends up in the spare wheel well. Its easy to think the water is coming in from the roof rail fixings because water from the fin soaks a big patch of the backing so it appears to be coming from multiple points. I really would advise removing the fin, drying all the surfaces and sealing with a flexible, waterproof compound ( silicone or similiar ) When I discovered my leak there was 2 inches of water in the spare wheel well and the steel wheel had rusted to the floor. Thats how much a leaking fin can cause. took 2 days for a fan to dry everything out after mopping up. After 3 attempts with silicone sealer I now have a rear load area thats totally dry even after a pressure washer directed at the fin and rails. the velour will restick using spray contact adhesive from a curtain/carpet supplier or d i y store. good luck.

thanks Christopher my intention is to remove the fin, when i checked the fin yesterday i prized it back and forth and could see water coming out between the sealand the roof that's when i put the rubberized tape on to be perfectly honest it looks ok as the car is british racing green and the fine is black as is the tape it's hardly noticeable but when i get dry weather as you know we get our fair share of wet weather in Scotland the fin is coming off as is the roof rails hopefully leaks will be fixed thanks Christopher for your advice much appreciated George
