I would suggest looking for a replacement bumper in the same colour, Unless you are very good with filler and painting it will never look 100%..And every time you walk back to your car you will see it

It looks like you were hit on the rear N/S. Probably cracked/stressed. A good body shop could repair all of that but at some expense

It looks like it has had a previous repair, there shouldn't be any filler from new.


The paint and filler lifting can be caused by many things, poor prep, poor adhesion, incompatible primer/filler/top coats etc.


Or the original repair was done to spec and the bumper at some time has had a nudge, often not noticeable, which has destroyed the bond between bumper, filler, paint which then lifts and flakes off over time.


Yes a good repair can be made, but to do so will take a fair amount of time and effort in removing all and any signs of filler and cracked / crazed paint from the bumper, being prepared for any horrors that may be waiting, which could involve sanding back most if not all of the bumper back to plastic.


Then once back to a perfect surface, the filling, contouring, stopping has to be done and then the paint job.


It depends what finish you want, a perfect one, or one that is as near as, to the untrained eye.


As others have mentioned, a quicker way can be to get a good second hand bumper in the correct colour, or any colour and paint it.


If you go for a second hand bumper that looks OK, carefully check the underside of the bumper for signs of repair including plastic welding for a split or hole, or some dome shaped ' humps ', these can be caused by the fact that sometimes when the bumper is whacked hard enough on the top edge of the bumper, it pushes up the top face of the bumper to form a hump.


Unlike a steel bumper, where you could work the hump down to just a few mm below the finished surface to allow for filling, this can't be done with plastics, they have to be heated to a softening point which will allow the plastic to be worked and the hump pushed down, in skilled hands this will result in a very slightly raised surface surface that will, in many cases, be leveled with just some light sanding, no filler needed.


However, in less skilled hands, me , it is better to leave a slight depression to allow for minimal filler to level the surface.


How do I know ? some,( I can't use the word I want, but feel free to use your favorite ), kind soul clobbered my bumper whilst parked, I decided to give it a go, nothing ventured etc. with having repaired bike fairings both mine, family and friends.


I've done it in stages with the majority of the repair done whilst on the car and I'm up to the last coat of primer, tinted, then base coat and clear.


I've taken photo's when I've remembered, so when finished I'll gather them together and post them, no matter if it is perfect, or shows the errors of my ways.

Do you have any local body shops? I know some of them are not that busy at the moment and might appreciate a cash job.



Budget on £300 to £350 having a professional doing it, doing it yourself with the price of materials you could easily be at £50 and unless you are an expert with a rattle can will always show.


Good idea with finding a good used bumper, all the ones I have seen are either in bad condition or £100 in fuel away as none of the sellers are willing to ship.

i have asked a local garage to have a look at the bumper and his reply was buy a sick on cover to hide the damage

Purchase another bumper and get it painted overall it should not cost you more than £300

Less if you can drop on one the same colour.
