Hi Dave.
Each to there own i say, i would not touch those rubnuts with a barge pole, they are the exact ones that Rover used to fix the air duct to the slam panel, i have yet to find or see anyone undo those without them being seized up due to metal bolts and brass insert being corroded together.

Every single car that i have worked on with them on i've had trouble moving them, also after a time the brass inserts just turn in the rubber case.

So in my opinion it's Caveat Emptor” on them.

Fair enough Steve but I couldn't get anything else - the kit on eBay or the various plastic rawlplugs to grip simply because the fixing hole had become distorted so the Rubnuts would bend to take up the slack.

Hi Mike.
Are the lights removed ? if so the on then drop a little super glue behind the rivet lip, then using a good sharp punch, punch four times the edge of the rivet north, south, east, & west, another drop of super glue wait for about 10 minutes, then spray plus gas on to & into the bolts thread, waiting another 10 minutes then try getting the bolt out.

Default Re: Mgzt-t rear light broken bolt lugs? Help?

Hello people Similar experience with earlier 'bodged' light fix resulting in the two plastic lugs (on the inside) which hold the light securely in place. Local garage obviously tried a second bodge fix but without the necessary know how it was always going to cause problems wherever a bulb or light change was required. Now even the eZee rear lamp fix won't work until I've sorted the 2 broken lugs (either with a replacement grommet or imagination running riot) Help will be greatly appreciated Thanking you in advance

Can you add a picture of the back of the light cluster, so we can see what the damage is and what is left of the cluster?

Those look similar to what is fitted to the air duct at the slam panel end. The bolt can seize in the nut and the nut then turns in the rubber.
