Hi Mike.
It depends on how stuck they are some come out really easy, some fight you right to the end, and you have to use a slide hammer.

Under no circumstances should leaver the injector up as he did in the video, using the spanner that is a sure fire way of splitting or cracking the cam cover, then you are in a world of pain.

Another good tip is make sure the engine is hot as it helps the injectors lift out easier, remove the two 8mm nuts and use a metal flat bar on top of the cam cover to leaver off.

All muck must be hoovered up.

5

Tips cleaned more or less the same as in the video.
6

7

Or you can completely dismantle the whole injector.
8

As stated above sometimes a slide hammer is needed.

For most of us we just need to clean the tips if they are in a bad way.

I could well be removing one on Thursday on a none starting diesel.

Sounds about right - if I remember correctly my car had covered well over 200k miles before I started treating the injectors to some cleaner.

Same here in that my CDTi is on 160k and was running fine and people commenting how good it sounds, before I started using additives. It is the diesel fuel is my concern not the M47 CDTi.

I started using Mannol additive (half a cup every time I fill up) from reading too many stories about the UK campervans and motorhomes (various makes) in good condition getting stuck at the roadside in the EU when an injector plays up and the EU garage cant get the injector out easily and bills are in excess of £3k to £4k. Then I read how campervans and motorhomes can spend most of their lives parked on the driveways of houses in the UK where the diesel goes off and helps gum up the injectors before would normally occur.

It is the diesel fuel which can be the problem not the vehicle car. My 160k CDTi sometimes sits parked for months (battery disconnected) with a full tank waiting to suddenly dash off on big trips. So £13 for a bottle of additive that can last a couple of years is an easy cost effective way to potentially prevent what gone off stale diesel may do.

(Forgot to say many who follow these Forums only use their Rover 75 occasionally and so a need to comment to also cover their situation)

Never used it myself so wonder if it's snake oil ?

Changing your fuel filter regular is also a good idea.

You could also pull all four injectors and clean the tips, which will help with the spray pattern.
I just looked at this and gasped as I realised who the company was ... believe it or not I worked for these people when I first left school, there was a branch in Mansfield that I worked at over 40 years ago.

Luck of the draw Roger. Funnily enough it wasn't the car I ordered, but was available before mine was built, and had most of the options I wanted although in a different colour.

As it was a company car, I thought I'd accept it just in case they changed what was allowed and I lost out - something that happened with monotonous regularity.

Well, mine is a little over the 200k mark now, and it's MOT week. I keep swearing I'll get rid of it every time it gives me trouble, but 12 years on, it's still here.

At the very least, for the test it'll need a steering rack, ABS sensor(s), and a rear passenger seatbelt. Possibly replace the front n/s spring too, as the other 3 have all been done... we'll see if I can squeeze another year out of it
