Default Rough running

My diesel has been running rough over the last few days.

I got my wife to sit in it and watch the rev counter while I had a look around under the bonnet.

I may have found the problem, there is a cable running in front of the battery box and ends in a plug that goes into the fuel filter housing. When I move this cable about I can get it in a position where the engine starts to run sweet again. What exactly is this sensor?, what does it do? And were do the wires dissappear to?

The problem seems to be more the wiring than the actual plug.

Thanks

Hi Mike it's the wiring to the low pressure fuel sensor in the filter head.
Normally if it's not making a proper connection the check engine light will come on, my tourer used to do it quite often but never caused any running problems. I used to lift the bonnet undo it and plug it back in a couple of times the light would go out.
The wires go back to the engine ECU

Give it a few squirts of contact cleaner.

Maybe trace the wiring backwards from the sensor unit.

Thanks for your replies.

It seems to run well when I lift the wires at the battery case area. Touching the wires around the plug area doesn't seem to do much.

Worth further investigation me thinks.

Russ, I've got my parcel to collect this morning, I'll try get the indicator stalk fitted this evening. I'll give you a call .
