Hi Have had them on my cars since 2011 and added a rubber washer along with stainless steel washer, the rubber grips to the under tray better, and stop them from vibrating loose

Good idea, nothing like a bit of rubber as an added precaution.....

Thumbs up Progress update

Well , I have now taken on board valuable observations / guidance from club members in this thread and completed refit of the undertray.

Quite a few of the fixture locations were in a bad way eg for some reason several of the holes on the undertray were worn thin and almost large enough for the bolt/screw to slip through. The rear two had been dragged along the road at some stage and were of reduced length ! I therefore decided to work thus . Bought :-

• M6 chimney nut sets as per daveo138 – post #4
• M6 Stainless steel 30 mm hex flange bolts
• M6 20mm Stainless steel washers and neoprene washers
• A sheet of 3mm aluminium

I then proceeded thus :-
1. First I cut cardboard templates to fit each location on the undertray and marked the hole location on each piece of cardboard
2. Next I cut two sets of square or rectangular plates from the aluminium :-
  • 3. Square ones to fit in the square recess locations in the undertray moulding where several grips go
  • 4. Rectangular ones to more than span locations such as the two , worn rear most locations
5. Next using the cardboard templates M8 holes were drilled into these small plates.
6. All the old clips were removed and replaced by the chimney clips
7. I then prepared each M6 bolt as per Arctic’s photo at post #10
8. Grabbing a dinitrol wax spray can I thickly covered each chimney clip in situ
9. Supporting the undertray on a number of jacks I raised it and moved to position the undertray holes with the chimney clips.
10. With the hex bolts/washers through each small aluminium plate , I screwed each home and tightened.
11. Finally I sprayed Stone chip protector onto each M6 bolt head !

The undertray is now , really solidly held on . I am particularly pleased with the aluminium ‘washers’ I have in place since they spread the gripping force from the hex bolts over a far larger area than the normal undertray grips / screws do – thereby reducing the chances of localised undertray fracture and spreading the force over a larger area.

Anyway , the end product looks / feels pretty solid and combines ideas from a number of fellow club members.

Thanks to all.
.

Nice one.

I must get around to repairing and fitting mine.

Were the M6x20 screws not long enough?
