Handbrake issues.
Hi all, I had a nasty noise coming from my o/s rear wheel, as I had some new discs & pads etc at the ready I dived in, , , ,Oh dear this is not what i wanted, removed the disc to be greeted by a shoe retainer spring & pin mashed up that fell on the floor, Luckily I had new ones but unlucky that the rear dust cover hole was a bit naff, managed to sort that out & refitted everything but now no hand brake, checked the compensator & all good that end so off it all came again, checked the cable on the hub end thinking it may have dropped out of it's lever thingy, lever thingy all nice & loose but couldn't move the inner cable, so took it off the compensator end but the inner cable still wont move, I take it the inner cable should slide freely when not connected either end?, so is this time for a new cable?, looks like the outer cable doesn't want to budge either so I can see good times ahead.

To remove the outer cable from the back plate, you may need to heat the tube the outer cable goes into as they do rust in place.
Yes the inner cable should move "freely" macafee2 |

Cheers for the reply, As luck would have it I managed to drift out the cable without a problem, thats about the only thing that has gone right so far., just amazing how they manage to seize so quickly seeing as the MOT was only a few months ago. |
