Tailgate window permanently locked
2003 Connie SE Tourer. The tailgate window on my tourer has been stuck locked for sometime. Decided to have a go at sorting it today. Removed tailgate trim no problem. Can't really see much. I removed the the cover off the external switch and a brass plunger with a coil spring shot out at me. Not sure whether there is anything wrong in there but all seems OK to me. It is now reassembled and still not working. Any ideas please?
TIA Malcolm

Most likely the micro switch as failed, one of these should do the job below, but as always double check with your own that it's the same shape etc.

OK. Got the new switch. Removed the old switch fine, no damage. But I need to open the tailgate window as it is locked shut. How do I do this? Am I just missing something easy?

You connected the new switch and clicked it and nothing happened? Next checks would be fuse - wiring in the short flexy loom to the tailgate - solenoid itself. I understand there should be an interlock between the main tail and the window so that both can't be opened at the same time (mine doesn't behave like this though - both can be opened) - maybe something to check. -A |

Car all unlocks no problem. I cannot completely remove the old switch as I cannot get at the wiring plug for it - I need the window open to do this. I have however, cut the old switch off at the wires leaving to nub ends of wire. I have joined these to complete the circuit (which is what the switch does of course), and still no joy. I have now put a test lamp across these wires and they are not receiving power. I suspect there is no power to the solenoid either but can't find a bare wire to connect my test lamp to. I am assuming the solenoid is in the black plastic box fastened to the end of the bracket that the wiper motor is also fastened to. The rear wash/wipe is still working. The only other thing that doesn't work - and it has been like it some time, is the petrol filler flap doesn't lock with the central locking.
I have just been looking at fuse locations in the owners handbook but I am still none the wiser as to where fuses for the back window might be.

You will have to 'jump start' the latch on the tailgate by putting 12v to the solenoid in the tailgate I'm afraid, this involves removing the inner plastics so you can see the area clearly.

Thanks. I am assuming that the solenoid is in the plastic box mounted on the wiper mounting bracket? If so, is it sufficient just to take the cover off it to gain access?
