Rover Alvis
Never heard of this and thought my leg was being pulled so I checked up and sure enough it exists, the Rover Alvis!! I think it's probably an acquired taste though.

Yep, strangely, if I remember correctly, it was a 3 seater?
As concept cars go I preferred the Rover TCZ, bodywork courtesy of Zegato. Last edited by Mike Noc; 8th May 2016 at 21:06.. |

Yes, the P6BS' engine is offset near the rear-right wheel which allows for a third seat behind the front passenger.
Well, it is a RMR P6 after all. |

That's nice and I should imagine quite rare. I wonder what people will think of some of the cars on the road now, in 50 years time!

Rover alvis
I believe this is at Gaydon museum and it is what was also known as the Rover Coupe. It was tested by Autocar or Motor magazine in the early 1970s. The V8 was offset in the rear and it had three seats. It was very close to being signed-off for production but sadly did not make it.

The bodywork on the Gaydon car was very rough and ready, AROnline have pics of the final shape, it looks great... a mid engined V8 sports car would have raised Rover's image in the 70's and early 80's, another sadly lost opportunity.

That seminal work "My Dad Had One Of Those" makes passing reference to the Zagato. As for the Alvis ... a reminder, I suppose, that as well as things of great beauty they also had a reputation for stark, utilitarian military vehicles.

Great looking machines though, and very capable - what a 'Go Anywhere' (well off road anyway, transmission wind up was a big problem on tarmac) vehicle the Alvis Stalwart was!
