dont touch it! 60mpg???? Why? Well, if it gets 60mpg, it must get towed a lot with the engine idling, and you dont tow an auto for long distances. He would get more if the trader turned the engine off while towing lol.

I think the seller is just very enthusiastic! Usual exaggeration regarding mileage - and if the car has an IPK, who knows what nonsense it's quoting!!
Seriously though - if the mileage is correct - and the car is in good shape - it could be a very nice buy for someone at that price.

MOT history suggests that it's a rotten old banger of a thing.

Of course it is, I was jesting enviously lol. It does look like a nice straight car. However, I would be thoroughly checking the plenums if it was me. There are a a few bits of straw/grass just below the windscreen, and hopefully only water remaining from an under bonnet wash in the engine cover bolt holes. To me, the price is good, and hope that it sells for that price to a non enthusiast. That would give an good indication of the cars being appreciated.

If only the trader had vacuumed the boot, it looks like effort has been put into the ad.

Yes it is an odd one. Failed on corroded brake lines, and then 4000 miles later advisory for corroded lines

Failed on worn tyres, then 3000 miles tyres cracking just a year later. Although it reads as though the spare was put on instead of a replacement!

OK the car obviously sits around, the corrosion underneath, may or may not be surface rust. But it is in Scotland, so it would be worth getting on your back for a good poke underneath. Taking that into account, then perhaps an offer of £500 less would be more realistic, sadly.

This MOT check is great. I just wish NI cars could be checked the same way.

Corroded brake lines is quite common not always and indication of a rotter. As for failing again if the garage has wire brushed them and rubbed a bit of oil on them its no surprise 12 months later they are a failure. Plenty of grease does the trick if they are savable.
