Xenon self leveling questions
After finding out that my factory fitted Xenon equipped car had a self leveling function, I checked some of the posts and saw the mess some owners had found the control arms in. Sure enough, mine were extremely not well.
Questions I have are: I took the switch off to deal with this and left the connector sparky tied to the brake warning cable. What effect on the headlamps adjustment will disconnecting the switch have? The drive shaft on this side has a large diameter rubber bush fitted to it. This seems to be around the area where the leveling arm should be. I suspect it was involved in the regulating rod (as BMW term it) falling off the suspension are. Does anybody know what this rubber bush is this for? And can it be removed? In case this is any use to any club members, the BMW part number for the regulating rod is: 37146752797 In case any member wishes to make a better version, a US spares site gives the rod centres as 71.5mm Best wishes, Frank |

Dear T-cut,
thanks for that knowledge. I would never have thought it was anything other than a lump of rubber, but your answer surprised me. Thanks for the link too. Most helpful. I try to resist following my first bodging instincts and ask before I do anything stupid, like cutting the "bush" off. And when I looked a some more posts on this topic, it does show that the bush is (or should not be) near the leveling switch arm. The photos on the club site are worth more than me squinting under the wheel arch! So all in all, many thanks to the club and you in particular. Best wishes, Frank B |
