Default Tyre recommendations

Afternoon,
I need to buy some tyres for a set of 17" Serpents which I am going to get refurbished for my Rover 75.
What tyres would you recommend? Tyre size, specification and manufacturer?
Thanks for your help.
Regards David

Hi David.

I like Avon ZV7's. Tick all the day to day boxes for me. Reasonably quiet, comfortable ride, decent grip particularly in the wet and last well.

There's more sport focussed tyres out there but that's not how I drive a 75 .

They're also one of the very few manufacturers who have at least some sort of base in the UK - Their R&D is here although the tyres themselves aren't made here. It's not easy to find any that are .

Also had good experience with Conti Premium Contact and Dunlop Sport Bluresponse but not on a 75.

Good Luck.

Andy.

Thanks for your thoughts Andy.
I'm a more sedate driver these days so I think I would tend towards your Avon ZV7s.
Thank you.

I have Uniroyal Rainsport3 on my Meteors, and they are excellent, much nicer than the rubbish that the car came shod with.

Best thing about tyres is everyone will have an opinion, these stick to the road like glue, and are quiet.

I have a set of Michelin crossclimate plus in my car with 17" meteors I've been really pleased with them but they are a bit on the expensive side also I had a set of Bridgestone turanza T005 put on when I had my 45 with 16" and they were excellent

Had a set of 17inch Uniroyal Rainsport 5's fitted on my Tourer the other week. Much quieter than the 17inch Avon ZV7's they replaced, much better ride over uneven surfaces too.
The Avons were well worn but so far am well happy with the Rainsport 5's

Thanks Thanos. Not so sure that I want to buy Michelins for a summer/weekend car. However I have heard reasonable reports regarding Bridgestone Turanza T005 tyres (B,A,71). Regards David.

Thanks Paul. I haven't checked yet but what is the difference between Rainsport 3s and Rainsport 5s? Regards David.

Think the newer Rainsport 5's are supposed to be as good as the old Rainsport 3's but don't wear as quick as the 3's did. Guess they've changed the tyre compound slightly
