Default V6 stuttering/misfiring

Drove my 75 2.5 V6 for the first time after several months and under load it seems to be hesitating. Gently putting the pedal in 3/4th gear and it’s stuttering.

Any idea what the issue could be?

Thanks.

Possibly old stale fuel if you've not used it for awhile

That did cross my mind. What would be my best option? Fill it up to the brim with fresh fuel? There is around a quarter of a tank of fuel in it from before. Maybe a little bit more. It didn’t misfire before I parked it up.

Hi Ravinder,

Your car's sulking. You've left it alone through the cold, damp months of the year. A bit of condensation may well have formed, a light coating of rust will appear on the brake discs and linkages become stiff as grease hardens.

Don't do anything out of the ordinary, just drive it. It's very likely that the hesitation will disappear. "Use it or lose it" is the watchword.

My early 2000 V6 had a slight misfire, which I cured with a new set of leads for the front set of plugs (early models had leads). There was also a tech bulletin re the plug caps deteriorating (one of mine had cracked up and I had to vacuum it out of the plug well, so that the bits didn't fall into the cylinder when changing the plugs!). Later models didn't have plug leads on the "front" 3. Sometimes you can see blue sparks of the tracking to earth if you lift the bonnet in the dark.

Default stuttering

Did it start and tick over easily from cold?? This is what mine is doing! Someone has suggested it might be E10 fuel!!

It started fine once battery was connected back up. Thanks. I’ll give it more of a run and see how it behaves.

Simon's post.---Post 4.

A squirt of WD 40 will help disperse moisture and also stop it forming again as the engine cools.--

A faulty coil will cause stuttering/missing.
