Default Thanks to Gary (Lovel)

A few weeks ago, my daily driver - a Rover 75 1.8 Turbo MK2 saloon was showing what appeared to be early signs of head gasket failure after 101,000 miles on the clock (Not bad going). I was losing quite a bit of coolant and noticed oil in the coolant bottle.

After carrying out a few checks and messaging a couple of forum members, it was agreed the car was showing early signs of head gasket failure.

I’ve owned the car for over two years and in that time it has only cost me tyres, a fuel pump and cambelt/water pump.

I got in touch with the previous owner - forum member, Lovel who is well versed with these cars. He agreed to have a look at the car for me and hopefully repaired.

Two weeks ago, I got the car transported the 150 miles to Gary in Aberdeenshire. Within a day, he had the head stripped and found a small crack in the elastomer gasket which appeared to be the cause. Everything else was fine such as the water pump, inlet gasket etc.

The new parts were ordered and sent to Gary to carry out the work.

Whilst the car was up there, he repaired a few other things for me that needed doing - faulty window regulator, hand brake, door handle, front brakes, wishbone bush, wiper arm, parking sensors.

Last night, I took the train up to collect the car and drove it back. The car drives lovely. I lost a bit of coolant on the way back home and had to pull over and too it up but I believe it just takes a bit of time for the new coolant to settle. Hopefully, that’s the only issue. But, happy I’ve got the car back.

Gary did a fantastic job and communication was great throughout. My main reason for taking it to him in the first place is because he knows these cars inside out and I know he would do a great job then risking taking it to a garage who may make a mess of it or tell me to scrap it.

Happy Rovering.

Rav,

I still maintain that the coolant level early warning light integral in the IPK is key when things like this occur on the kseries, just 120cc lost and the warning light alarm gets triggered. Your car is one of a handful in the UK that has it fitted. I was glad to see that after a number of years the sensor it is still working as it should.
