Toaf Airbag faults
So I have managed to get a TOAF scan of my ongoing airbag light issue and its giving the following faults;
9144 Side Sensor Right: Communication Error 9142 Side Sensor Right: Plausibility Error 9001 Supply Voltage: Low voltage 9036 Ignition Circuit (SideBag Front Seat Left) :Resistance too high 9016 Ignition Circuit (Belt Pretensioner Left) : Resistance too high So am i right in thinking I have 2 issues to resolve, One the passenger seat, both the airbag and tensioner connections which I have taken apart and cleaned a good few times Secondly the drivers side side impact sensor which I will need to check connection or replace. Not to sure of the Low voltage error but I did just put the battery back on after it went flat checking the airbag light after twiddling Any assistance most gratefully received Stubs |

Can't help a lot I'm afraid, but having just been down a similar road myself, I was informed (checked, and it's the case) that the pretensioners are connected in series, so whatever it says, there's no way to know which one is causing a problem - so I'd start by doing the connectors under BOTH seats

If so water may of got into the plugs on the sensors under the carpet. As for pretensioner on mine I removed the plugs under the seat and just soldered and heatshrunk them together, never had a problem since. |

However, my test confirmed what you'd expect - if the airbag light is on, and the tool indicates a front pretensioner, switching either left or right off kills it. Who knows - maybe the software author felt it more "correct" to do it this way, or anticipated its use on (maybe non-Rover?) cars with separate wiring, or whatever. Either way, it's a very useful little tool - when our highly experienced T4 man uses it in preference to T4, it says something... I didn't even know there were rear pretensioners. Perhaps they don't cause trouble, as there isn't any movement of the seat to disrupt connection

Also you mention about Pre-tentioners, are these the wires that come from the floor near the front of the seats that clip onto the rear of each seat that tentions the seat belt, but not electrical! Nope. The pre-tensioners are squibs in the seat-belt clips which fire in the event of an accident, and tighten the seat belt around you.

I shall see if somebody else has maybe a wiring diagram which would highlight the correct colour combinations which connect together, as my garage says if incorrectly connected I might as well scrap the car if the airbags acitvate. Plus I just have a brown from the seat and you mention Orange/Brown so I shall check it again in daylight tomorrow. Thanks for clearing up the pre-tentioner situation, I am now aware that what I mentioned were the seat belt tentioners to adjust the height of the seat belt. Many thanks once again. |
