Default Running temp

Just had a run to Stanstead airport and put the ipk in diagnostics mode.

70mph all the way, running temperature was around 95 to 98. Is that average (ish)?

It's about typical for 1.8T with the factory fitted (buff/88C) PRT. I'd have preferred slightly lower during a decent 70mph run. Keep your eye on the temperature in a wider range of conditions. It shouldn't approach fan trip point (104C approx) unless stood in traffic for 5-10 minutes when fully warmed up. Activating Diagnostic Mode is a good habit for all owners of a 1.8 or fit a decent gauge if you want to do things right. Remember the 'normal'/9 o'clock position on the dash can mean anything between 75C and 115C, so basically it's pretty useless.

Thanks TC

Have a full new PRT set of pipes to be fitted as I possibly have a small leak due to weeping pipes and also told that the O ring on the radiator elbow has disappeared so have that to do.

The fan normally kicks in at 110-112 when I'm stationary in traffic

My first private car in about 15 years as was always a "new" company car driver so use to everything "normally" running perfect

The fan should activate at 105 on low speed and bring temps down to 97 it looks like yours is not doing this have a look at the low speed fan check documented on here you may have a failed resistor

The upper hose plastic T-piece is the weakest link in the system, though MGR's hoses never were that clever. Replace the T-piece if not already done. Get a stainless steel one from Tazo on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Stainl...QAAOSw-pVZlWWL

Hmm, disappeared?

That's the emergency high speed trip point. It looks like the slow speed resistor has failed. Do the Demist test to confirm it. You can get uprated resistors from forum traders, ebay or electronics outlets like RS Components. Easy to fit and will resolve the cooling issue I mentioned.

all in all, your temperatures seem to be about 5 to 10 degrees (or thereabout) higher on all occasions than what you would expect.
Maybe check the temperature sender for accuracy?

Is this the first time you've seen the actual running temperature? Or is it running warmer than previously?
