Default What side is the Filler Cap on ?

You know how annoying it is when you're in a strange car and can't decide which side of the pump to go for easiest access ........

Well apparently - the picture of a petrol pump on the car fuel gauge denotes which side the filler cap is on by showing the "handle thingy" on the appropiate side of the pump

ie handle on left of pump - filler on left of car

Why isn't that in the manuals
